Vocabulary, Knowledge & Skills (VKaS) Model.
At Highweek, we base our learning around vocabulary, knowledge and skills (VKaS).

This model has three main components that children need to interleave in order to understand and retain the concept being taught: Vocabulary, Knowledge and Skills. The VKaS model is used to plan and teach the unit of work, ensuring a breadth and variety of learning intentions, and an 'end point' which showcases their newly acquired vocabulary, knowledge and skills.

Vocabulary: The key subject specific (tier 3) and high-mileage words which can be used across a variety of contexts (tier 2) which are linked to the unit of work.

Knowledge: The substantive knowledge or 'established facts' of a subject. E.g. Key dates in history and learning the names of planets.

Skills: The disciplinary skills required to learn and retain the substantive knowledge. E.g. Learning the skill of colour mixing in art and analysing historical evidence and artifacts.
